Usually you are not supposed to make posts about your unsuccessful experiment on your blog, but I am doing it to share my pain with you, :)))
This weekend I had a little bit of time to work on my new dollhouse. I didn't like plain white color and really wanted to make this house old looking. No, not haunted, just with a little bit trace of history on it.
First of all, windows on the sides were removed.
I painted bay windows, the trim of the house and columns dark blue and crackled them...
...and then I went wild! I painted the house blue! Disaster! My poor Vanessa doesn't want to talk to me anymore! My sweetheart and my son laughed all day. I've got support only from Nataly, my little princess, she came to me, gave me a hug and said that the house looks unusual and that's why it is beautiful.
After a while I decided that I am done experimenting with the paint and I always liked dollhouses with bricks and stones and I've never done it before. I made up my mind to cover the house with bricks!
I made bricks from the clay that I purchased with a huge discount when our local Ben Franklin craft store went out of business, added some texture paint
and painted it
What happened next and how house looks now I will tell you in my next post!

Dear Natalia,
ReplyDeleteI loved your story. Thanks for sharing. Sometimes I think I'm the only one that make mistakes. When I read blogs it looks so simple. But reality is different. Thanks.
Hugs Dorien
The mistake carry forward. It found it the perfect solution. Very good for the brick wall!

Dear Natalia,
ReplyDeleteIf you wanted the house to look old, you achieved your goal. I agree with your daughter it does look very special. Happy progress!
Hugs, Drora
Oh I know so well to take wrong decisions. I have a shop I have painted 3 times, and now it just gives me, guilty conscience. I have not found the solution of my challenge. You have made a very good solution, it looks real good with the stones. Enjoy.

With this color the house is very original.
ReplyDeleteGreetings, Faby
Watch out - here comes another big (virtual of course) hug from me... oh my! In theory blue washed with white sounds good, doesn't it? But maybe things had to go wrong at first to bring you to the path of making and using bricks... ;O)

Thanks for reminding us that we all make a mess from time to time. I can't wait to see the finished project!
ReplyDeleteOh, Natalia! You are very Brave!!! Only the courageous take big steps... even if they don't at first look right.... keep going!!! LOL! I am sure it will eventually become what you are "seeking"!
ReplyDeleteMaybe the house was supposed to be brick from the start? You have made great progress with your bricks!
I am still debating in my mind whether to make my Lovely Old Dollhouse brick... or keep it the same old white it has "always" been... I am watching carefully for your results!
Thank you for being brave enough to share the mistake with all of us. We all make them, but do not want to tell others. I've ruined the ceiling in my dollhouse trying to make it look stippled & have yet to correct it. :) Your skill shows in how you fixed the dollhouse which is looking magnificent. Can't wait to see more. I love the bricks & it will add such character to the house.
ReplyDeleteHugs,
Lisa
I always have a very hard time deciding about things, I'm afraid I will do the "wrong thing". But when we do, it can always be fixed, right?! I painted a floor that my husband said I shouldn't have done that way, and after a while I changed it =) But not entirely like he wanted, I made a mix of what he said and what I wanted =) (but I have to admit my first attempt was as bad as my husband said...) ;)

Te está quedando muy muy bonito y especial, besitos
ReplyDeleteBueno, espero ver el final de la casa. Desde luego el azul no fue afortunado.
ReplyDeleteThank you, contar, I like the look of bricks better too. Natalia
ReplyDeleteBirgit, got your hug (virtual...), feel better,:))) Still can't believe Blue was sent to the wrong address though, :)))! Mini hugs, Natalia
ReplyDeleteHi Daydreamer! I agree with you - the house was supposed to be bricked from the beginning, but I was not sure in my skills and decided to paint first. Say hi to Blue. I love that bear! Mini hugs, Natalia
ReplyDeleteLisa, thank you! Sometimes my mistakes discourage me and I try to forget about them and a project. Don't give up! I am sure you will find a correct decision about the ceiling, it just takes some time, true? Hugs, Natalia
ReplyDeleteHi Hannah! I've just noticed you have a very interesting name - it can be read from left and right side the same! Cool! I am on the same page with you - it takes a lot of time for me to make a decision how I want things to look like and usually procrastinate doing them... Don't give up and always try your ideas! Hugs, Natalia
ReplyDeleteThank you everyone for your nice comments! You all inspire me! We all need to remember - don't give up and move forward, we learn from our own mistakes. Dang it! How many else should we make?:))) Wit love, Natalia
