Have a Question...

Do you remember I told you that I purchased an undressed doll - a lady in her age - at the show in Montana?

So, today I wanted to work on her and this lady comes with heels.

I wanted to make my own shoes for her and stumbled upon the question how to get rid off those heels. I tried to sand them out with an electrical sander but surprisingly for me it didn't work out.

Any advises on how to get rid of the heels will be highly appreciated. I hate to see her feet to be painted. I want to make the shoes that I can take off her tired feet and put slippers on!!! Folks, ideas please...

Is it that you want her to have flat soled shoes? Or are heels okay, just not painted ones? If you are okay with her having heels, you could make the shoes over her feet and...that way you don't have to sand the doll's feet down. The shoes could be glued onto her feet at the sole after you are done making them.

I would use thin cardboard for the sole of the foot and heel, and very thin glove leather for the shoes (and to cover the heel), first making a pattern out of paper to assure fit.I would also make a strap with a buckle, but you could really do any kind of basic or fancy shoe with heels.

There are some good tutorials online for making miniature doll shoes. I have links saved if you'd like them!

Here is a link to a good tutorial with photos on different way to make shoes for mini dolls...including the way I tried to describe in my first comment (much easier to see how to do it!)

Natalia, I am afraid that if you go too far at taking off the heel, you run the risk of it being hollow. then you would have a foot with a hole in the bottom. My only other suggestion is make her some feet from poly clay and replace the porcelain ones.

Thank you Kate for the links, but my concern is not how to make the shoes, the problem is that I want to get rid off the heels that doll has.

Casey, I can sculpture new feet but it sounds more like mess for me to replace the feet since I have no idea how to join the doll's parts. I'll keep thinking. Thank you, Casey.

I think Casey's suggestion about replacing the footed legs might be the best way without causing any damage. Is there any way to contact the dollmaker - maybe she can give you heelless legs? - Don't be too disappointed - I'm sure you'll find a solution... ;O)
